INTRODUCTION

Neeraj Chopra is an Indian athlete and javelin thrower, known for his exceptional talent and achievements in the field of sports. Born on December 24, 1997, in Khandra village in Panipat, Haryana, India, Neeraj rose to prominence with his remarkable javelin throwing abilities.


Early Life and Athletics Beginnings:

Neeraj Chopra displayed an interest in sports from a young age, participating in various athletic activities during his school days. He initially dabbled in cricket and had aspirations of becoming a professional cricket player. However, his journey in javelin throwing began when he attended a training camp held by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in Panipat. His natural talent and remarkable throwing abilities were soon recognized by his coaches.




Rise to Prominence:

Chopra's talent for javelin throwing quickly gained attention within the Indian sports community. He started competing in various national and international events, gradually improving his skills and distances. One of his major breakthroughs came in 2016 when he won the gold medal at the IAAF World U20 Championships held in Bydgoszcz, Poland. This victory brought him international recognition and established him as a rising star in the world of athletics.




Commonwealth Games and Asian Games Success:

In 2018, Neeraj Chopra achieved a significant milestone by winning the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games held in Gold Coast, Australia. He set a new national record with a throw of 86.47 meters. Later the same year, he also won gold at the Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, further solidifying his position as one of India's top athletes.




Olympic Glory:

Neeraj Chopra's most remarkable achievement came at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which were held in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He won the gold medal in the men's javelin throw event, becoming the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal in athletics at the Olympics. His winning throw of 87.58 meters was not only a personal best but also a historic moment for Indian sports.

Neeraj Chopra's success at the Olympics elevated him to a new level of fame and admiration. His dedication, hard work, and exceptional talent have made him a role model for aspiring athletes in India and beyond.




World Championship

In 2022, Oregon world Athletic Championship, Neeraj Chopra awarded with the silver medal with his best effort of 88.13 in the final at the Hayward field was short of Anderson Peters who recorded a throw of 90.54m in his final attempt before Neeraj and bagged Gold Medal.

 In 2023, Budapest World Athletic Championships, this time Neeraj Chopra awarded with Gold Medal with his best throw of 88.17 in the final and become the first Indian Athlete to win the Gold Medal at the senior world championships and added yet another noteworthy entry to his list of many.




Diamond League

In 2022, Zurich Diamond League, Neeraj Chopra won the Gold Medal with an 88.44m throw and also ace in fact, recorded the top three throws in the final and become the first Indian to win the Gold Medal in Diamond league.
